The Swiss town Winterthur is planning to install so-called “intelligent on-off streetlights”.
The idea of the intelligent streetlights encloses two points. One point is the usage of more energy-efficient technologies like LED. The other point is about managing the light’s duration and intensity of every single streetlamp through headquarters.
Headquarters steer the glow duration and intensity of every single luminous object. Thus the output of the lamps can be reduced during the night hours. Besides, through the “light-on-demand-principle” certain lamps shine only if a movement sensor is activated. Even more, the lamps can communicate with each other. If a car turns into a street, the system is calculating the segment to be lighted up.
