Lucas Laborde built his own electric car
Posted by Cecilia under: Transportation .
Tired of waiting for an affordable electric car? So was seventeen-year-old Lucas Laborde of San Antonio, Texas. His wish was to drive to high school this fall in his own self-made electric car.
He spent about 150 hours through this summer converting a gas-powered car, a Bradley GT II his father purchased on Ebay, to an electric powered car.
Because the car was not designed to be an electric, Lucas had to be creative in order to find enough place for the eight 80-pound batteries. Ultimately he found the space at a price - the weight of the batteries twisted the car’s flexible body just enough that the doors don’t close completely.
With the assistance of his father and a total cost of about $10,000 Lucas realized his dream. He created a working, highway-ready electric car in incredibly short time and cheaper than any multinational car company.
After having his electric car certified by a state inspection as street-legal, Lucas Laborde will be for sure the “green star” at high school.
