William Yuan’s 3D Solar Cell
Posted by Cecilia under: Energy .
The Georgia Tech Research Institute presented a new 3D Solar Panel design on January 2008. The design appears as nano-towers, like small blades of grass. These type of panels produce about 60 times more than traditional flat solar panels.
The latest advancement in 3D solar panels come from a 12-year-old boy, William Yuan from Oregon. He invented a new type of 3D solar cell which is even more efficient. His research was based on the data from Georgia Tech Research Institute.
His solar cells can absorb both visible and UV light. He solved the problem of capturing UV by designing carbon nanotubes which overcome the barriers of electron movement.
William Yuan has received various awards for his invention and plans to take the next step toward commercial availability of his solar cells.
