How to water drought-tolerant plants
Posted by Cecilia under: Environment; Home .
Choosing drought-tolerant plants is an important part of creating xeriscaping with low-water-use.
Although they are better than using non-native, water thirsty plants, there are still times when even drought-tolerant plants require extra watering.

During their first year even drought-tolerant plants need supplemental watering. Some may require additional water into the second year.
Only after the plants are established you can reduce or eliminate additional watering. Some plants will survive for many years without an extra drop of water from your hose.
Check each plant in your garden for clues to the water it needs.

Very good advice. Oftentimes the poor plants dies the first year without that extra water. I’m guilty of neglecting mine at times:(

You must live in a very dry area of the States. In the Midwest we have more than enough rain to drown out the plants you are using. I do have a few cactus and succulents that are window plants and they fall into the category you are working with. I once started a garden in New Mexico and was able to dig down to plant below the soil level. This helped as the roots were closer to water and I did not need to water so much.
