Eco-friendly ideas of Sainsbury’s Supermarket
Posted by Cecilia under: Economy; Energy; Environment .
Sainsbury’s Supermarket in Great Britain rates “respect for our environment” as one of their five core business principles. How has this respect toward the environment translated into real actions?
These are three eco-friendly values to which Sainsbury’s Supermarket is committed:
- Best for food and health: making products healthier, promoting healthy eating and clear labelling with nutritional information.
- Sourcing with integrity: supporting British products, sustainable sourcing by choosing articles made of 100% recycled materials and supporting fairtrade.
- Respect for the environment: improving energy efficiency, reducing waste to landfill and giving reusable shopping bags.
Sainsbury’s launched the world’s first people-powered checkouts. When customers drive on the store’s parking lot they drive over Kinetic Road Plates equipped with piezo crystals. The Plates are expected to produce 30 KW of green energy an hour, more than enough to power the store’s checkouts.
